Been messing with this lcd controller for a good week now. Thought I’d give my thoughts on it. I no writing experience so I though I’d layout some pros n cons.
First thing I must state is im using it on a 7in tft display @ 800×480. Also in 4 wire spi mode.
Pros..
In SPI mode it is fairly easy to program and display data
Only needs 4 wires
Simple PCB Design
Cons… (SPI, I2C aka SERIAL MODES)
Slow as heck!
BTE (Burst Transfer Engine) only available in PARALLEL mode
Pros of other modes… (PARALLEL – untested)
Should not be too difficult to work with
FAST (i assume)
BTE available, with transparency a +
Cons (Parallel)
SO MANY WIRES!
PCB DESIGN & COST
CONS ALL AROUND
At this display size i only get 1 layer @ 64k colors.. to use 2 layers i would have to switch to 256 colors which sux
Datasheet doesn’t give much info on actual MAX SPEEDS
To be honest. These displays are cool and work great still with some coding tricks but don’t get this for anything near video performance. I plan to use this for a Remote Control (FULL CAPACITIVE TOUCH) and so far it works great.
Basically depending on what you plan to do keep the above in mind and good luck.
